Some of you may have heard that on September 8, 2016, Department of State issued proposed new regulations for adoption agencies. You can read them for yourselves here:
ABI and the rest of the adoption community have several very serious concerns with the proposed changes. You can read about them here: http://saveadoptions.org/letter/. ABI’s Lucy Armistead and Diana Boni were involved with drafting the concerns listed, and we fully support each and every one of them. All of us agree that every child should remain with his birth family, or in his birth country, if possible But we also believe that NO child should ever grow up in an institution. Every child has the right to a permanent, loving family.
Unfortunately, there are powerful government and NGO forces who continue to believe that children are better off in orphanages than international adoptive homes. These regulations are another attempt to put that policy into force.
We need your help to stop DOS from regulating the majority of adoption agencies out of existence. Please visit http://saveadoptions.org/ to sign the petition. It is quick and easy to do. Encourage your friends and relatives to do so as well. We must speak up to save the agencies who are often the only voices for institutionalized and abandoned children.
